Science Grade 6

This course was compiled by the Class Teacher Edna Lopez – Edna.lopez.gr6@auksun.com.

Science is everywhere. A student rides to school on a bus, and in that instance alone, there are many examples of technology based on the scientific method. The school bus is a product of many areas of science and technology, including mechanical engineering and innovation. The systems of roads, lights, sidewalks, and other infrastructure are carefully designed by civil engineers and planners. The smartphone in the student’s hand is a miracle of modern computer engineering. Outside the window, trees turn sunlight into stored energy and create the oxygen we need to survive. Whether “natural” or human-derived, every aspect of a student’s life is filled with science — from their own internal biology to the flat-screen TV in the living room.

Science education is one of the most important subjects in school due to its relevance to students’ lives and the universally applicable problem-solving and critical thinking skills it uses and develops. These are lifelong skills that allow students to generate ideas, weigh decisions intelligently and even understand the evidence behind public policy-making. Teaching technological literacy, critical thinking and problem-solving through science education gives students the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in school and beyond.

Hi there, I am Edna Lopez (Edna.lopez.gr6@auksun.com ). I am a virtual Grade 6 e-teacher. I teach IT and Computers. Alongside as a teacher, I am also a trainer and facilitator for online e-teachers. I am a co-author of Learning Management Systems at AukSunLMS. I headed the AukSunLMS exploration project Sunrise – Lever du Soleil for two years. Currently, I offer its editorials! The desire to teach has been in me since I was a little girl. I have always wanted to help people globally, specifically children. It is essential that each student maintain their individuality throughout the learning process. Moreover, it is important for the students to develop critical thinking skills so they can analyze the multitude of perspectives they will come across life. If you TRY, you can do anything! It’s always been my belief that you cannot put information in other people's heads. If you find a way to show them something, they can use their own intelligence to learn. This is my approach to teaching, trying to be both informative while allowing the students to find their own way of learning. I’ve spent the last 12 years teaching in various capacities. I’ve taught martial arts to kids and developed a curriculum that was geared specifically to enhance their development. – “If a child can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.” – Ignacio Estrada
